Welcome to Saffron in Saugeen Shores!

We have been serving international cuisine right here in Port Elgin since 2012! Everything is homemade, including our bread and desserts. Just below you will find information on reservations and take-out!

Today’s Specials & Reservation Information

RESERVATION PROTOCOL

The best way to make a reservation is to call 519-832-9121 any time after 1:30PM on Wednesdays to Saturdays (and you can call after 8:30AM on Sundays).  If you wish to pre-order your food when you make your reservation, go for it!  Walk-ins will only be accepted if it's a slow night for take-out, (take-out is about 80% of our business, thus reservations are strongly recommended!) :)

 TAKE-OUT PROTOCOL

For our dinner service, call 519-832-9121 any time after 1:30 Wednesdays to Saturdays to place your take-out order in advance (after 8:30 on Sundays for breakfast). The hours for pick-up are in 5 minute increments between 4:00-7:45 for dinner (and 9:00-12:45 on Sunday).  The regular menu is all available, plus daily features listed below.

Wednesday July 29th (4:00-8:00)

‍ ‍We are now FULLY BOOKED for BOTH dine-in and take-out tonight- thanks for understanding!

Soup:

Polish Potato and Dill Pickle! $8 *The soup will be changing tomorrow!*

This soup is SO tasty (and no, it’s not super pickle-y or sour!) It is very creamy, with potatoes, carrots, celery, sour cream, dill, paprika, bay leaves, butter, chopped pickled cucumbers and vegetable stock - the flavour is awesome! (Jenn normally skips the side pickle on her plate, but enjoyed this soup a lot!)

(Vegetarian. Contains gluten and dairy).

Appetizer:

Peruvian Tostones! (Toe-stone-ays) $10

So yummy! Tostones are plantains that are smashed and fried until crunchy (while they look like bananas, they are starchy and taste more like a potato - they get crunchy like french fries). They are salted and served with a homemade dipping sauce made with mayo, roasted bell peppers, jalapenos, tomato paste, garlic and blended feta! SO GOOD. You get four tostones in an order so you can share an order between 2 people.

(Vegetarian. Contains dairy and egg. Gluten free, although they are fried in a communal basket and are thus not celiac-friendly).

Drinks:

Chai $4.00

Our famous hot milky caffeinated sweet tea made with cardamom and ginger. :)

Coffee! $3.50

We have partnered with Rabbit Dash/Dizzy Bird here in town to serve you a cup of their delicious "Saffron Blend" - a medium-dark roast with nutty, syrupy hazelnut notes, and a bright aftertaste!

Cold Drinks:

Ginger Ale, A&W Root Beer, Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite $3

Fuze Iced Tea $3

Perrier or Lemon & Blood Orange San Pellegrino $3.50

Main:

SOLD OUT, SORRY! Peruvian Chicken Plate! $26

Yum! This is soooo delicious! Two tender marinated boneless, skinless chicken thighs are grilled to order (the marinade has fresh oregano, olive oil, garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, lemon juice, a touch of soy sauce) and then topped with a SUPERB homemade herb sauce (cilantro, jalapenos, blended avocadoes, mayo & yogurt, garlic, lime juice). It is served with rice and pinto beans (onions, garlic, pinto beans, corn, hominy [corn cooked in lye] oregano, chicken stock), sliced avocado, some chopped mangoes, and thinly-sliced fried sweet potatoes on top! Amazing!

(Contains dairy, corn and soy. It has traces of gluten from the soy sauce and from the sweet potatoes being fried in a communal basket, but it otherwise has no flour).

Desserts:

1 of 2: Return of the Tres Leches Cake! $10

OH. MY. WORD.  This is heavennnnnnly!  A vanilla sponge cake soaked in condensed milk, evaporated milk, and cream (the texture is sooo good - kind of like tiramisu).  It is topped with a thick layer of homemade whipped cream mixed with dulce de leche (caramel!)  Big enough for 2!  It is for those with a sweet tooth!

(Contains gluten, dairy and eggs).

SOLD OUT SORRY! 2 of 2: Central European Chocolate & Coffee Cake! $11

(Limited Amount - Jenn will update the website once it’s gone!)

OH.

MY.

Jenn is struggling to find the words to describe the deliciousness of this cake.

Layers of homemade chocolate sponge cake are soaked in a coffee syrup. Layered with whipped chocolate ganache and whipped coffee French butter cream icing. It is SO. GOOD. It will fill ALL of your caffeine needs. Big enough for 2!

(Contains eggs, dairy and gluten).

Please note that summer is officially here - this means that before we open at 4:00pm (or 9:00am on Sundays) we often have a multitude of take-out orders *already placed, as well as dine-in reservations. For July and August, call as early as possible to get your take-out order in to avoid disappointment! Jenn will try her best to update the website just above with each night’s status (how busy it is, etc.), but sometimes the phone rings so many times that it’s hard to stay caught up! :)
